About Me.

A bearded man with glasses grins coquettishly at the camera. He is wearing a pink shirt and a straw fedora.
Me, in a rare photogenic moment.

Hello there!

I’m Ben, originally from Burnley in the north of England but living happily in Co. Roscommon, Ireland, since 2006 with my wife, four children and two dogs. I was a mental-health nurse for twenty or so years, leaving the profession in 2018 to be at home full-time. Three of my four children are autistic, so I became a carer. Losing a wage was a tough decision, but needs must.

Procrastination has been a lifelong problem, and I’m fascinated by how some people are smothered by this issue and others manage to keep the squirrel at bay. Everyone appears to be susceptible to procrastination, so what makes me, and people like me, utterly unable to shrug it off?
The biggest difficulty? The children’s book I’ve been attempting to write for several years now. Multiple books, more accurately. Numerous books started, abandoned, and forgotten, as writing is hard. And because it’s hard, and because I’m not churning out a masterpiece in one long muse inspired frenzy of productivity, I beat myself up. I give up.

Procrastinate B will document my battles with procrastination, what helps me, what doesn’t, and how I keep the squirrel from distracting me from the stuff I want to achieve. This blog will keep me in the writing routine I’ve not yet managed to carve for myself.
Most importantly, I hope it will document me finally finishing that book, sending it off, and becoming a published author.
